Design and Distribution Obligations

This is a summary of the information you need to know about the Product Design and Distribution Obligations which came into effect on 5 October 2021. It provides you with access to the Target Market Determination for each of our affiliated investment manager partners and issuers and distributors of financial products covered by Product Design and Distribution Obligations.

About the Design and Distribution Obligations

The Product Design and Distribution Obligations (DDO) requires issuers and distributors of financial products to have a consumer-centric approach to the design and distribution of their financial products, with the aim of helping consumers to obtain financial products that are appropriate for their objectives, financial situation and needs.

The obligations apply to a broad range of financial products including managed funds.

Obtaining a Target Market Determination

It is the responsibility of Channel Investment Management Limited AFSL 439007 as a product issuer to create a Target Market Determination (TMD) for each of our products covered by DDO, namely:

Each TMD must:

  • Describe the target market – provide an outline of the likely objectives that the product can meet including the risk and return objectives, based on the needs of a suitable client profile.
  • Provide distribution conditions – detailed information on the conditions or restrictions on the sale of the product.
  • Establish reporting requirements – list out the relevant information that must be provided to us by distributors at our required frequency. At a minimum, a distributor must report complaints it receives about the issuer’s product to the issuer, as well as report any significant dealings in the product that are inconsistent with the TMD.
